DBT

DBT

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence based therapeutic concept that focuses on managing stress, impulsivity, relationships, and emotions. DBT utilizes the concept of Dialectics, which states that opposites can coexist, especially in thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT relies on three basic assumptions: everything is interconnected, change is constant and cannot be avoided, and opposite thoughts can work together to form a clearer understanding. Four core aspects of DBT are Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotional Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. These four aspects allow the client to recognize and focus on areas of change in their lives while also accepting things they can not control.

Clients who struggle with balancing life’s chaos with their own efforts to change and make progress could benefit from DBT. Clients can learn to manage stress and emotions, advocate for themselves, and deal with distress in healthy and productive ways through individual therapy utilizing DBT. Crown Counseling Services also offers a DBT-based Adolescent IOP group.
