About

TF-CBT

At Crown Counseling, we're dedicated to supporting children, adolescents, and their families on their journey toward healing and resilience after experiencing traumatic events. Our professional and empathetic team offers Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), a compassionate and effective treatment approach designed to address the unique challenges faced by those coping with trauma.

TF-CBT is a proven, evidence-based therapy that combines the principles of cognitive behavioral therapy with specialized strategies for managing and coping with trauma. TF-CBT has been proven to be effective with children between the ages of 3 and 18 years old. TF-CBT works best with a caregiver identified by the child, to support them through treatment. TF-CBT typically spans 12 to 16 sessions and includes individual sessions for both the child and child’s caregiver, as well as joint sessions with both child and their caregiver present.

Studies have shown that TF-CBT reduces children’s posttraumatic stress, depression, and problematic behaviors, while working to improve their sense of self esteem. The child’s caregiver has a very important role in TF-CBT, by meeting with the therapist at each session, they will receive feedback about how the trauma has impacted their child, while also learning tools to help support their child through treatment. Through participating in TF-CBT, parenting skills are also discussed to further help the caregiver and child’s relationship through treatment.

Through TF-CBT, we focus on equipping both children and their caregivers with the tools they need to understand and process their experiences. We explore coping skills for managing difficult emotions and thoughts, encourage the sharing of feelings in a supportive environment, and work together to rebuild a sense of safety and trust. Our goal is not just to address the symptoms of trauma but to foster a foundation of strength and resilience that supports long-term healing and well-being.
